How to distribute your music on Spotify in 2026

Spotify does not take files directly from an artist. The usual path is a distributor: you upload the master, the artwork, and the release details, and that delivery goes to the stores. In 2026 the process is the same. Preparation is what changes the result.
What a distributor handles
A distributor delivers the audio, assigns or keeps identification codes, and sends the metadata stores use to display the track: title, artists, date, genre, and artwork. It is also the channel that brings back stream reports and royalties from those stores.

What you need ready
- A final audio file, without a long silence at the start and without a distorting master.
- Square, sharp artwork with no store logos or URLs.
- Title and artist names written the same way as the rest of your catalog.
- A release date after your plan’s delivery window.
- Genre, language, and an explicit flag if the track needs it.
The date is not a detail. If you ask for the track to go live before a store can process it, the release is delayed or comes out incomplete. On a free account, count 7 business days from submission. On an artist account, delivery is usually 1 to 5 days.
Mistakes that stop a delivery
The most common one is the artist name. If one track says “DJ Ana” and the next says “Ana DJ”, stores can treat them as different profiles. The same happens with featured artists written three different ways.
Artwork also gets rejected when the text is unreadable, the white borders are huge, or it includes Spotify, Apple, or TikTok marks. Use your own image. If you do not have final art yet, do not crop a story and send that.
After you submit
The track does not appear on Spotify the moment you click. It enters the delivery queue. When the store accepts it, the release follows the date you chose. Save the title, the date, and your profile link to share on release day, not before the store publishes it.
